Press Release
New EMS Solution Under Development
March 5, 2003
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The North Carolina Pre-Hospital Medical Information system (PreMIS), a
project in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, is a documentation, data storage and quality
management solution for the North Carolina EMS community. Currently,
PreMISoffers EMS professionals a method of capturing, submitting and reporting
incident information. Data is submitted to a central database by faxed
form, on-line data entry or import. UNC has signed a contract with Ascot
Technologies, Inc., a Cary based company specializing in wireless
applications, to develop PreMIS Mobile, an advanced means of data capture
and submission via handheld device.
Dr. Greg Mears, the EMS Medical Director for North Carolina describes
PreMIS Mobile as a much anticipated means of capturing information about
the EMS
incident, printing of completed documentation of the call for medical
record purposes, and securely transmitting that captured information
to the
PreMIS database. PreMIS Mobile encourages electronic data collection
in the
field and is designed to be a more complete and accurate alternative
to
hand-written documentation of incident data.
Ascot Technologies' CEO Mary Ellen Randall spoke about this project.
"We
are very pleased to be assisting UNC's PreMIS project in the development
of
their EMS solution. This important project will provide increased
flexibility in the way our emergency personnel respond to calls across
all
of North Carolina."
Ascot Technologies provides custom, semi-custom and standardized solutions
including inventory management, customer relationship management, order
management, medical and real estate applications.
